ASNE-DV in collaboration with Drexel University and the School District of Philadelphia kicked off our 2 nd Sea Perch (underwater robot) workshop administered by MIT on the Drexel University Campus on Saturday, 4 March.   The workshop prepares high school and middle school teachers to teach students how to build sea perch, how to build a propulsion system, how to develop a controller, and how to investigate weight and buoyancy.  ASNE-DV and its partners at Drexel and the School District of Philadelphia will host a 300 student competition on June 3 rd 2006, where students will maneuver their sea perch through an underwater obstacle course.  Underwater sensors and cameras can be added to Sea Perch for additional lessons.  For more information on this exciting program, visit www.asnedv.org or visit the MIT Sea Grant site at http://web.mit.edu/seagrant/edu/seaperch/index.html.  The sea perch program is funded by ONR as part of the National Naval Responsibility Initiative focused on bringing academia, government and industry to work together to ensure that the talent needed to design the Navy's next generation of ships and submarines will be there when needed
